Alan Merrill

April 2, 1936 - March 14, 2010

Alan Merrill was very passionate about Norwegian Fjord Horses and actively promoted the breed. Alan joined the Norwegian Fjord Horse Registry and served on the Board of Directors for 6 years, which included 2 years as President. During that time, he also served on the NFHR Evaluation committee working to get more evaluations in all parts of the country. I first met Alan and Lois, his wife,  at a Fjord evaluation in Wisconsin. They were a very friendly and helpful couple that would do almost anything to help the Fjord community.

In 2004, Alan and Lois moved to Tryon, NC. He continued to promote the Fjord Horse and with Jane Sawyer, they were instrumental in producing the first Fjord Horse promotional video in this country. When the Fjords and Friends Fun Fest was started in 2005, Alan attended several times and helped as much as possible. Alan brought an equine liability witness/specialist, Randi Thompson, to speak at the gathering and this was a great learning experience. We all miss Alan.
